WHERE WERE YOU WHEN THE CURTAIN
FELL
My first CD of original songs has been released. The songs on this album were initially recorded in analog on an 8-track reel to reel recorder at the StringMan studios. At the time, the StringMan Studio was nothing more than a walk-in closet in my house that I had set up as my "music room". I played all of the instruments on these recordings, laying down one track at a time.. What a long and arduous process that was. I improvised some sounds, for instance; the bass heard in most of the songs is nothing more than a French horn sound effect produced in a sound module and played through my electronic piano, one note at a time. Hey, it works...
Recently, a friend found a cassette tape that I had given him and he suggested that I could take my original reel-to-reel tapes to a "real" studio to see if they could perform some "magic" and produce a CD. So off I went with tapes and recorder in hand to Keith Harter Music, a San Antonio sound production studio. At Keith Harter, the recorder was patched to a digital converter "something" and the tracks were downloaded to digital format where they were engineered, mixed and mastered, to eventually become this CD collection of 10 of my songs.
I hope that you enjoy WHERE WERE YOU WHEN THE CURTAIN FELL. My plans are to very shortly begin working on my next album, but this time using some lessons learned that should move the quality of my recordings from the analog sounds of the 50's to modern times, while still using my reel-to-reel recorder... I guess I'll always be "old school".

Testimonials:
"Don, it was a pleasure speaking with you today. I am writing to confirm
that you have permission to use my photograph entitled "Cheyenne Diner" in
connection with your CD project. Your songs are great -- keep up the
good work. All the best, Shane Stroud."
"I listened to your CD on the way home and it's great. Your music reminds me of a cross between Paul Simon and Neil Young with a hint of Jimmy Buffet thrown in. My favorites were "Road To Kingdom Come" and "Wasted Time"..."
"Great CD by the way Don. I am diggin it. All you turds should listen to it. It's good."
"I listened to your CD on the drive home from the airport. You are certainly multi talented! The lyrics reminded me of the time frame in which I grew up and the hundreds of small towns I have visited across our country...all different and yet all the same."
"The more I listen to the tunes the better they sound. What I would really like to hear is the stories behind the lyrics!"
"Your songs just keep staying on my mind! Love them!"
"I just listened to the whole thing and I am so impressed with your talent."
"BEST WISHES w/ the album......I could see myself w/ a glass of wine, a fireplace and a special someone just enjoying the music."
"I listened to your music on the way home and enjoyed it. Your voice and sound reminds me of Bob Dylan."
"I enjoyed your CD. I think it has touches of Neil Young, Arlo Guthrie and Bob Dylan. My favorite is the first one, Heart of the Night. It would be fun to see you perform somewhere!"
"The CD arrived about two weeks ago and I know most of the words to all of your songs - it's awesome! Tell me...is one song in particular autobiographical? I never figured you as a window peeper but I guess you never really know someone :)
Thanks again for sending it along - it's definitely become a favorite in our house already!"
"Well - you got me. Your song, "I Must be in Heaven," is absolutely my favorite - your chord selection - especially in one or two places just melted me...and I had tears. There aren't many things (songs) that can do that to me...
Your music is so completely authentic and beautiful to me. Thank you Don for not letting go of your music."
